Bred for extra sweetness, Ruby has dark purple-skinned globe shaped roots with creamy yellow flesh and is a really useful winter vegetable. A high dry matter content ensures excellent winter hardiness and it also shows good resistance to Powdery Mildew. RHS Award of Garden Merit winner.
Growing Information
To avoid foliage mildew sow early May in North and late May in South (20-24 weeks maturity).
Sowing Information
Sow thinly into finely raked, moist warm, weed free soil at a depth of 13mm (1/2") in rows 45cm (18") apart. Germination 6-10 days. Thin seedlings by degrees to 20cm (8") between plants. Grows best in well cultivated soil in an open position. Lime if necessary. Twist off tops when harvesting.
